The vast majority of developers believe that form follows function. They say things like, “Who cares what it looks like! As long as it works.” They write-off user interface design, aesthetics and ergonomics as “graphics and icons”.
In high-end cooking schools, the chefs spend a considerable amount of time learning as much about presentation as they do about the cooking itself. Why? It adds a tremendous amount to the user experience. It makes you feel like you’re about to eat something special. Something that a lot of care and quality went into. (Something perhaps, that you’d even be willing to pay a premium for.)
Imagine if chefs said things like, “Bah! Why worry about presentation? It all comes out looking the same anyway!” I’m not sure I’d want to eat at that restaurant.
